Constanza Sánchez Avilés

Constanza Sánchez Avilés is a political scientists and doctor in International Relations and International Law. Her fields of research include political economy and illegal drugs, violence and organised crime and national and international drug policies. From 2007 until 2013 she was employed as a lecturer and researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University. She has been a researcher at Miami University (2010), for the Justice in Mexico Project at San Diego University (2012) and at the Global Drug Policy Observatory in the United Kingdom. She has conducted field work on drug policies in Peru, United States, Mexico and on the Mexico-United States border and works with several drug policy research institutions.

Constanza coordinates laws, policies and human rights related activities at the ICEERS Foundation, including the legal defence of people prosecuted for use of ayahuasca, examining the political impact of drug policy reforms and drafts reports on these issues. She coordinates the Committee of Experts in Ibiza for the Regulation of Psychoactive Ethnobotanicals set up at the World Ayahuasca Conference in 2014 and for the Teacher Plant Legal Defence Fund.
