The Spanish Medical Cannabis Observatory (Observatorio Español de Cannabis Medicinal, OECM) was founded in October 2015 out of the need to promote, coordinate and carry out activities and projects aimed at furthering knowledge of the medicinal properties and uses of cannabis and its derivatives. It also seeks to advise public and private bodies and to inform institutions, the media and civil society about current knowledge on cannabis, based on the results of scientific studies and clinical trials.

The media and anti-drug propaganda exaggerate the negative aspects of cannabis and tend to portray its users as irresponsible, addicted or untrustworthy people. In this round table we will review various theoretical aspects and practical experiences which show that non-problematic cannabis use is not only possible but also a strategy that should be promoted from a public health perspective.

The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum manages and exhibits a unique collection of more than 12,000 objects related to every aspect of the cannabis plant. The collection can be explored at two venues: a canal house in the centre of Amsterdam and a Modernista palace in Barcelona.

The life expectancy of the inhabitants of the Chinese village of Bama Yao is over 100 years. Scientists believe that the secret of their longevity lies in their diet, which includes plenty of hemp seeds.
This remarkable fact is the starting point for a talk in which the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum explores the history of cannabis edibles and sets the table for a contemporary dinner full of hemp.

The lawyer Héctor Brotons and the activist Martín Barriuso will give a joint presentation in which they will analyse the latest developments in the Pannagh case, as well as the functioning of the association in question as a legal model within the constitutional framework. In so doing, they will present a viable, social and responsible model of regulation, which has been and continues to be an example for regulation in other countries and which lays the foundations for part of the forthcoming regulation in our country.

Cannabis and sexuality have been linked since the origins of humanity, both to heighten sexual pleasure and to achieve altered states of consciousness. In the round table we will discuss cannabis, sex and altered states of consciousness in ancestral rituals and in sexual encounters today.

The pairing of psychoactive substances and letters has accompanied humanity since the beginning of the civilising process. Despite the modern demonisation of drugs such as cannabis, people have sought inspiration, open-mindedness and well-being in psychoactives. This round table addresses the close relationship between drug use and cultural production. We will look at cannabis culture and at current public communication about psychoactive substances, and will conclude with a reflection on psychoactive poetry.
